Grand Opening of Skate Park at Carpenter Park on August 11

Skate Park Grand Opening flyer

After Saturday, August 11, skaters can perform 360 flips, 50-50 grinds and generally catch “air” to their hearts desire in Plano. Proudly, the Plano Parks and Recreation department opens its first skate park with a special grand opening celebration starting at 9 a.m. this weekend, weather permitting. The Skate Park at Carpenter Park is at 6701 Coit Road. The new facility’s dedication includes a ribbon cutting and the skate park is open to the public after the ceremony.

Voters approved funding for the project in the 2005 bond election. Years of community planning culminated in 2016 when the skate park was added to the Carpenter Park Master Plan. Senior Park Planner Liz Del Turco said, “This is a project that has truly been a community effort.”

Designed by Newline Skate Parks, Carpenter Park Skate Park combines popular street-style skating and bowl skating features. The new skate park features some of the most extensive and unique skate features in all of north Texas (i.e. one of the largest bowls, various sized ramps, rails, stair sets, and ledges). Adding an extra touch of “cool,” the park is designed in a “P” shape resembling the official City of Plano logo.

After the dedication ceremony, the Skate Park at Carpenter Park welcomes skateboarders, scooters and inline skaters during the regular park hours, 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Skaters 10 years and younger must be accompanied by a parent or adult to use the facility. Read the other park rules; violators will be fined. Everyone skates for free.

Riders of every skill level will flip over Plano’s gnarly new Skate Park. The public is invited to attend the grand opening ceremony.
