Summer School Zones are Still Active

slow school zone

Yes, Friday, June 1 was the last day of school for Plano ISD, but you still need to watch out for little ones. Driving with care through school zones doesn’t end on the last day of the regular academic year. Shortly after last-day celebrations, summer school begins:

First Session: June 11 - June 28, 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Second Session: July 2 - July 20, 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

NOTE: On the last day of each session, students will be released at 10 a.m.

The same driving laws apply during summer school months, as apply during the regular school year – 20 mph speed limit and no cell phone usage. Not paying attention in these areas could cause injury to child.

Not all school zones are affected these two months. You must be on alert for areas with clearly marked signs highlighted in red with a flashing yellow light. These signs indicate summer classes are in session at that location.

Along the same lines, please remember kids are out and about in the neighborhoods, parks, pools and playgrounds too. PLEASE be cautious when driving in these areas and watch for children who might dart out in front of you.

Parents, talk to your young ones about watching for cars when playing outdoors. Children should wear helmets when riding a bike. Adults should also set the example by wearing helmets too when out peddling. Scrapes, cuts and even broken bones will heal if you crash, but head injuries are far more serious.

Help keep Plano a safe city to live, work and play!
