Prepare for Summer with Walk to Wellness

Walk to Wellness WEB

Fridays take on new meaning for Team Plano as the Walk to Wellness program embarks on its inaugural steps tomorrow. You’re encouraged to continue the momentum of the recent C4H Safety Olympics by joining the walking team where you’ll take in exhilarating scenery and breathe fresh spring air.

The Sustainability and Environmental Education division and the Parks and Recreation department worked with Senior Wellness Coordinator Michelle Gifford to come up with a local air quality initiative leading to Clean Air Action Day on Friday, June 22. It’s an ideal symbiotic relationship benefiting you and the environment. Air North Texas offers resources to regional cities and businesses and promotes public awareness campaigns to improve the air we share.

Walk to Wellness begins Friday, May 18 at Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve with a 30-minute stroll beginning at 7 a.m. Meet your colleagues at the sidewalk between the outdoor restrooms and the picnic shelter before heading down to the pond. Walkers will follow Senior Deputy City Manager Mark Israelson for a lakeside jaunt. Don’t forget to pick up some free, healthy snacks before heading off to work. 

Walk five Fridays leading up to Clean Air Action Day:

May 18 – Oak Point Nature & Retreat Center, 7 a.m.

May 25 – Chisholm Trail Library Loop, 12 p.m.

June 1 – Jack Carter Dog Park Bluebonnet/Chisholm Trail Loop, 7 a.m.

June 8 – Oak Point Nature Preserve Boardwalk Trail, 12  p.m.

June 15 – Downtown Plano Cultural/Historic District Loop, 7 a.m.

You’ll be entered for great prizes each time you walk (i.e. a monthly pass to recreation centers or a family 4-pack of tickets to Jack Carter Pool).
