The Municipal Center lobby is home to several images of Plano’s rich history and culture, and home to vibrant samples of our departments’ excellence. The glass display case near the Action Center Desk is one of the building’s best features. It showcases the unparalleled programs, events and services provided to our citizens year round.
The current display is the titled “9-1-1 Education Month & Telecommunicator Week” and was created by Susan Rodriguez of the Public Safety Communications department. In her description of the window, Susan says:
“This year 9-1-1 turns 50 years old! On February 16, 1968, Senator Rankin Fite completed the first 9-1-1 call made in the United States in Haleyville, Alabama. These five decades have taught us every second counts and every second makes a difference. We’d like to make sure the ‘seconds continue to count.’ Citizens should remember the questions we ask help us send the correct agency during emergencies; and helps us provide life-saving instructions until first responders arrive. April is National 9-1-1 Education Month and April 8- 14 is National Public Safety Telecommunicator Appreciation Week. Help Us Help YOU!!”
