Relive Plano’s Early Years with Municipal Center’s Lobby Display

Heritage Preservation May 20 (9)

The current Municipal Center lobby display is a visual time-loop of Plano’s rich past. The National Historic Preservation Month exhibit journeys back to the City’s humble beginnings. Stories are shared through vibrant photos, videos, a ceiling montage and fashion.

The City of Plano, the Heritage Commission and its Preservation Partners encourage all residents to celebrate May as a National Historic Preservation Month. Some of the display features:

  • A timeline of Plano’s history based on the recently updated Preservation Plano 150 plan, outlining major events and illustrating “The Plano Story” in eight significant eras.
  • The Texas Pool Foundation exhibit celebrates their recent listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The Texas Pool, 901 Springbrook Drive, is open to the public from Memorial Day to Labor Day – come “Swim Across Texas!"
  • Heritage Farmstead Museum’s section is titled “Early swimwear, circa 1900-1920”. In the 1900s, swimming became an acceptable leisure activity with modest, yet stylish, swimwear.
  • The Interurban Railway Museum and the Johnnie J. Myers Transportation Research Center exhibit shows the Center’s online database and historic photos of a bath house.

The Municipal Center lobby display case is home to ever-changing images of: Plano’s rich history, culture and vibrant samples of City programs, events and services. The glass display case near the Action Center Information Desk is one of the building’s best features. For information about the Display Case Program, contact Jeff Smith at 972-941-7107.
