Reduction of Parking Spaces at Arbor Hills Encourages Social Distancing

ArborHills Sign

Extra safety measures are in effect to promote social distancing and improve the quality of visits to one of Plano’s largest green spaces. Parks & Recreation’s award-winning Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, in response to user comments, different restrictions were needed for how patrons use the parking area.

The aim of this change is to enhance everyone’s enjoyment of the preserve’s beautiful trails and landscape while adhering to the City’s social distancing guidelines. As of now, the upper parking lot at Arbor Hills is closed.

The modification reduces the total parking by 25%, leaving 190 spaces still available. Parking on the grass or on non-designated spaces (like neighborhoods close to Arbor Hills) is prohibited and violation will bring consequences.

Most residents are within a brief walk of one of Plano’s 85 parks. Therefore, the department hopes people will go to a different park if over-crowding is ever an issue. Getting outdoors is a great cure for cabin fever, but only if it can be done responsibly.

Remember, our “friendly monitors” (Parks & Recreation and Library staff) are stationed at the major parks and make routine checks of the smaller neighborhood parks. Their primary job is to remind park patrons about the City’s emergency declaration, which recommends social distancing.

Let’s all be safe out there!
