Public Safety Communications Director Susan Carr shared news with Council that Text to 9-1-1 is now active in Plano during the October 28 meeting.
The Text to 9-1-1 service makes it possible for the hearing impaired to have the same access to 9-1-1 emergency help as hearing individuals. It can also be used in circumstances where it is unsafe for the caller to physically make a voice call to 9-1-1. The ability to help more residents is greatly enhanced with this service.
We remind our citizens if 9-1-1 is needed, “Call if you can, text if you can’t.”
Text to 9-1-1 is not available in all cities. If you are in a city that does not accept text messages, you likely will receive a bounce-back message from your carrier, informing you to call 9-1-1.
