The current Municipal Center lobby display takes our summer pests seriously. With “Fight the Bite,” the Environmental Health & Sustainability department is on top of the challenge to combat pesky mosquitoes.
Carolyn Russell, Maria Palmer and Keith White created the design. Echo Rexroad says, “It’s that time of year again! Warm sunny days after a cool rainy spring can only mean one thing in North Texas – mosquitoes. Each week from April through September, the environmental quality division strategically sets 19 mosquito traps around the city to track the total numbers of mosquito species and mosquito-borne disease. If a mosquito pool tests positive for a disease, we spray adulticide within the area of the trap.”
In addition, environmental specialists work to eliminate stagnant water throughout Plano which removes prime breeding habitats for these annoying critters.
There are many ways residents can protect themselves and fight the bite as well! Follow to the 4-D’s:
The display shows how the City works to protect our citizens from vector borne-diseases and how we all can work to protect ourselves!
The Municipal Center lobby display case is home to ever-changing images of: Plano’s rich history, culture and vibrant samples of City programs, events and services.
