Once a year, Volunteers in Plano selects one staff member for the VIP Supervisor of the Year award. The 2019 winner is Heather Harrington, sustainability volunteer coordinator for Environmental Health & Sustainability/Live Green in Plano.
The person who earns this honor is professional, compassionate, ethical, and ripe with excellent customer service and leadership. The VIP team surprised Heather at her spring volunteer recognition event, which she meticulously puts together for her top Live Green in Plano volunteers.
Her volunteers shared these comments:
“Heather is a positive role model. She is always on top of things. Heather is very smart and knows what’s going on in the recycling world.”
“She encourages volunteers to actively participate and demonstrates the quality of servant-leadership, which is quite rare and unique.”
“Heather is an effective communicator who clearly explains the goals and the task at hand, so the volunteers can be successful. She also follows up with emails to make sure the volunteer has all the right tools and resources required to finish the task.”
“Heather always greets people with a smile…is courteous, dedicated to her work and dependable at all times.”
With Heather at the helm, last year’s SEED program used 5,678 volunteers who gave 21,656 hours supporting staff. These workers helped keep our creeks and streets clean, maintained two gardens and labeled storm drains.
We are lucky to have Heather on Team Plano. Congratulations!
