Libby Holtmann Accepts TMLDA Award for Plano Public Library

Library Award-2

Plano Public Library received another Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA) honor. It takes a lot to earn the Achievement of Library Excellence Award, but we’ve done it consistently since 2005. Director Libby Holtmann accepted the plaque during the April 8 City Council meeting.

What makes TMLDA’s acknowledgement even better? Only 51 of the state’s 550+ public libraries got the nod for the 2018 service year, putting Plano in the top 10 percentile.

It’s not easy to qualify for this accolade. Applicants are required to address 10 criteria:

  • Provide services to underserved persons
  • Provide improved service by increasing or changing programs
  • Provide marketing materials about basic services and programs
  • Provide cultural, topical and educational programs
  • Provide literacy support for all ages
  • Conduct a summer reading program (youth, teens and adults)
  • Collaborate with community organizations
  • Support staff development
  • Support patrons with public internet access, digital literacy training and other online library services
  • Offer professional staff training for all levels

In accepting the award, Libby said, “It’s a delight to serve the community every day. Our volunteer program is so meaningful.”  See her award acceptance.
