The Fire Chief Had the Winning Pot

Chiefs winner WEB

Smells from sizzling crock pots filled the Municipal Center’s 2nd floor on Halloween as Plano Fire-Rescue hosted their annual Chili Cook-off. The event drew crowds from the first and third floors, as well as firefighters and staff from the fire houses. The competition was stiff among the seven contenders, but after all points were counted Plano Fire Chief Sam Greif produced the “Best Pot” of Chili!

Lt. Paul Paradez, fire investigator/inspector, won second place. “A standing ‘O’ for the Ya-Yas!! Thank you for putting this together. Great food and even better fellowship!” said Paul. The “Ya-Yas” he referred to are Fire-Rescue’s Senior Administrative Assistants Jennifer Bradley, Annette Gladney and Lisa Green – the event planners. Firefighter Laddin Gillespie submitted a pot of chili earning third place.

The Cook-off judges commended all of the amateur chefs on their culinary skills. The judging panel consisted of:

Mark Israelson, deputy city manager

Brandi Youngkin, policy & government relations director

Selso Mata, building inspections director

Danny Burks, assistant fire chief

Jack Sides, retired fire captain

Chief Greif accepted his win graciously and agreed the Ya-Yas did a great job organizing the event. He added, “I love when our team gets to have a little fun and let our hair down, so to speak.” He made this statement while wearing a long curly black wig as part of his Halloween custom.
